Carlton co-captain Patrick Cripps insists he will remain at the club through its rebuilding phase in hopes of leading the Blues back to their old glory days.

Winning only 19 games of the 88 he has played in and only one of seven this season, the star midfielder said that he is from a loyal family who doesn't shy away when things get tough.

"I know once we get there, building something from the bottom up with some of your best mates is going to be pretty rewarding," Cripps told Jock and Journo Podcast."

Cripps expressed his keenness to be involved with the growth of a team as opposed to topping up a contender elsewhere.

"If I left, say you go home and you go to the Eagles… they've just won a flag, and you (hypothetically speaking) win one in your first year, does it mean as much as building something from the ground up?

"I don’t think it would, so that's something that really drives me."

SEN breakfast co-host Tim Watson praised Cripps and said that he "gets it" and loves his passion to win with the team he is on.

"He gets it, doesn't he? I love the fact that he gets and understands what this game is all about – it's as much about the journey and the struggle as it is about anything else," Watson told SEN Breakfast.

"And for him to understand that, as a young man, that that win, if they get it, if they build it right, they get there and he's a part of it, that will complete his football career totally and utterly."

"It is one of the great things that I've heard a young player say in recent times."

Last year, Cripps signed a new contract a year before his previous deal expired to tie him to Carlton until the end of 2021.

Hoping to avenge their 56-point loss to North Melbourne last week, Carlton play Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.
