Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes has asked further questions of Carlton's recruitment this weekend, with the Blues going down to the Power at home by 28 points on Saturday night.

Cornes' lament of the Blues in the build up to their Round 5 clash with Port Adelaide singled out Carlton youngster Paddy Dow, who was named as the medical substitute and went unused for the game.

So far this season Dow has struggled to show predicted development and faces constant criticism as he carries the weight of being the third overall selection in the 2017 draft.

Speaking onย SEN,ย Cornes said the Blues must persist with Dow before making a call on the 21-year-old's future.

โ€œPaddy Dow, I just havenโ€™t seen enough from him, unfortunately,โ€ Cornes said.

โ€œTime is starting to run out. No shortage of opportunities. They have to give him those and continue to persist with him because of the investment in him.

โ€œRight now, heโ€™s not making the most of that and questions will emerge whether he has a long term future with his size and his ability in the midfield at an AFL club.

โ€œI hope weโ€™re wrong there, but time is sort of starting to run out a little bit and those questions will continue to emerge.โ€

The Blues were handed their third loss of the season in their defeat to Port Adelaide on Saturday night and further questions were raised over the club's recruitment and development by Cornes in the aftermath.

Speaking onย The Sunday Footy Show, Cornes named Dow, amongst others, as an alarming prospect for Carlton.

"You'd think they have drafted the wrong ones," Cornes said.

"Paddy Dow, high draft pick, misses again.

"[Lochie] O'Brien is another one, [Sam] Petrevski-Seton is showing me nothing, [Liam] Stoker played well yesterday in the two's but hasn't been confident enough.

"They are miles off where they need to be and where they should be in their development. It was a confronting performance last night."
The Blues will face Brisbane at Marvel Stadium next Saturday before clashes against the Bombers and Bulldogs.
