Collingwood and premiership player Bobby Hill have officially cut ties.
Hill noted he will be taking time away from football in a bid to "regain his passion for the game".
"I'll always be proud to have been part of this club and thankful for the opportunity to represent Collingwood – I leave with memories I'll cherish forever," Hill said.
"I'm going to take a break from football to keep working on myself and regain my passion for the game."
Hill is understood to be delisted from the club, and will qualify as a delisted free agent, opening the door for other clubs to pursue him.
After a tumultuous 12 months, the Pies have acknowledged that despite the difficulty in the forward's life, he has been unable to uphold the commitments.
“We thank Bobby for the contribution he has made to the Collingwood Football Club," Collingwood Executive General Manager of Football Charlie Gardiner said.
"The club has been working with Bobby over the past 12 months to put support structures in place to help him work through some personal matters.
“Despite this, Bobby has unfortunately struggled to meet his commitments to the club consistently this year and agreed that taking a break from football is the best decision for him and his family.
“Bobby will always be recognised as a Premiership player and a Norm Smith Medallist at Collingwood and we wish him all the very best.”
Pies CEO Craig Kelly hopes Hill can continue playing football in the future.
Hill took a screenshot of the racist and explicit remarks he received via Instagram and shared it to his story.
Zero Hanger has decided not to show the message he received.
"I'm sorry to hear that if this is the case," McRae said following the 25-point loss.
"Bobby, our thoughts are with you. Not just for Bobby. What's going on? World's a crazy place at times, isn't it? I don't do social media, so bear with me, but I did look onto a website where it had feedback, and feedback is unbelievable.
“It's just a cesspool for people just to vent. I find it fascinating that that's actually something that people would be interested in. But, if Bobby's listening out there: I'm sorry to hear that's the case. We'll always love him; it's sad to hear that.”
