Much has been made of West Coast's struggles away from home in recent times, but in the grand scheme of things, their record away from Domain Stadium is rather impressive.
We took a look at every team's regular season record away from their home state over the last three and a half seasons, with some interesting results.
Beginning with the much-maligned Eagles, they have recorded 18 wins from their 36 games interstate since round one, 2014.
The two South Australian clubs have the same record (19-16 or 54%) while Brisbane, unsurprisingly, has won just six games outside of Queensland.
Of the Victorian teams, Geelong has won an impressive 10 times away from Victoria in 18 games played while the Hawks - who won two flags in this time frame - managed to score eight wins from their 15 interstate games from 2014-16, but have struggled this season, with one win and two losses.
The Hawks'ย 'home' games in Tasmania, of which they play four a year, have not been included as an interstate fixture. Likewise, North Melbourne's 'home' games in Hobart, of which they play three per season, have not been included.
Victorian heavyweights Carlton and Essendon have dismal records interstate while Richmond and Collingwood boast surprisingly successful records outside of the footballing capital.
Sydney, however, is by far the most successful club away from home, tallying up 26 wins from their 35 trips interstate in the home and away season.
Obviously the teams from outside of Victorian are forced to travel every second week, while Victorian teams, with 10 teams in the state and two main stadiums, play far less games outside of their home state.
Overall, Carlton has the worst interstate record in the competition over the past three and a half seasons, with a winning percentage of just 11% (two wins from 18 interstate games).
Sydney has a winning percentage of 74% when playing interstate. Perhaps surprisingly, the Tigers have the second best winning percentage outside of their home state, winning 55% of matches interstate, while Geelong comes in third, with a 54% winning percentage.
Below is a table of each of the past three seasons (2014, 15 and 16), as well as this season, showing how many wins each team has had when playing interstate, as well as the overall record over the past three and a half seasons.
