North Melbourne's horrible day in Adelaide has avoided some devastation for fans and the club with star Luke Davies-Uniacke avoiding a serious knee injury.

With seconds to go in a game where North Melbourne had been thumped by Adelaide, Davies-Unaicke was crunched in a tackle and immediately gabbed at his left knee and looked in discomfort.

However, the club believes the 26-year-old has "presented well" after the game and they believe he has avoided a serious injury.

That was about the only silver lining on a disappointing day for North Melbourne. The Roos kicked the opening two goals of the game, but were monstered by the Crows in the second quarter as the hosts booted 10 goals to none in a damning display.

Kangaroos coach Alastair Clarkson said he doesn't yet know the reason for his players' massive drop in performance during the second term.

"It's disappointing, because it came from left field," Clarkson said in the post-game press conference.

"Where's it come from? Don't know because we haven't seen it for the year.

"Nearly every time (Adelaide) went inside 50 it turned into a converted opportunity for them.

"We just needed the halftime siren to sound about the 10 minute mark of the second quarter, just so we could settle our guys down. We were able to do that at halftime and at least make it more competitive in the second half with six goals each. Pleasingly we were at least able to stem the flow a bit in the second half and not have it become a real blowout because it was looking that way.

"Very easy for that to turn into a 100-point loss. It was our worst quarter for the year by a long way."

Clarkson said while he and his coaches will analyse the game to find out where it all went wrong in that fateful second quarter, sometimes you have to pay credit to your opponents.

"Everything you would want from a side, they were able to do, and everything you don't want was happening to us," he said.

"They were very impressive. That second quarter was some of the best footy I have seen from a team in a very long time.

"Sometimes you just have to dip your lid to an opponent that was too good and they were in that second quarter."
