Chris Judd

It's that time again. Juddy's come through with another one of his weekly top 5's and this week, he's looking at the defenders.

On Monday night's episode of Footy Classified, Judd looked at the league's best defenders who he referred to as 'incredibly important parts of the game."

The top five are as follows:

5. Lachie Whitfield (GSW)

"He's a running machine, averaging three tackles this year," Whitfield is a key piece in the Giants' defence, especially in a year where they've suffered so many injuries. He averages 2.7 rebound 50s a game this season.

4. Shannon Hurn (WCE)

"He's the general down their in defence, number one in the AFL for marks." Hurn has been one of the Eagles' most valuable players as he anchors down the defence and makes it difficult for any team to penetrate his side's back six.

3. Jake Lloyd (SYD)

"Incredibly consistent performer, averaging 27 disposals this year," Lloyd provides the Swans with great run off the back 50 and averages 5.7 rebound 50s a game this season, the third most in the league.

2. Tom Stewart (GEE)

"Really good one-on-one defender... great leg speed, uses the ball well." Another defender who is key to their team's success. Stewart seemingly gets his hands on every ball that gets down to the defence. Averages 5.9 rebound 50s a game this season.

1. James Sicily (HAW)

"Brilliant with the ball in hand, brilliant foot speed," One of the biggest surprises in All-Australian contention, Sicily has had a dominant year playing in the back line for the Hawks. He averages three intercept marks per game and is number one on Juddy's top 5.
