Carlton board member Craig Mathieson has resigned from his position, with the club confirming the news through a statement on Monday.

The move comes amid a wave of uncertainty at the Blues after yet another loss, falling to 13th spot on the ladder at the conclusion of Round 11. Reports from both Channel 7 and the Herald Sun have suggested that Mathieson's resignation comes after a tense verbal exchange with club president Luke Sayers on Friday night.

Carlton have just four wins on the board in season 2023, now possessing a four game losing streak with Melbourne to come next in Round 12.

Mathieson has been a director at the club for over a decade, with his departure now opening up a new board spot.

Mathieson was reportedly among those that backed Ross Lyon for the senior coaching position at the Blues, who instead joined St Kilda in late 2022.

Carlton confirmed Mathieson's departure in a short statement on Monday.

โ€œThe Carlton Football Club has accepted the resignation of Director Craig Mathieson, who has served on the Carlton Board since 2012,โ€ the statement reads.

โ€œMathieson made the decision to resign after serving as a Director for 11 years and overseeing the Club's finance and audit remits.โ€

Current senior coach Michael Voss remains contracted to Carlton until the end of 2024, with president Luke Sayers backing him in despite growing discontent over the lack of results.

โ€œAbsolutely. โ€˜Vossy' is our coach through to the end of next year. Michael Voss has been a tremendous asset for this football club and we're looking forward to doing great things with him in the future,โ€ Sayers said after Round 10.

โ€œWe're not playing good footy at the moment, we're not happy with where we're at. We've got to get better. We're going to get back to work and our goal for this year is finals."
