Brisbane is set to hold only three formal coaching presentations after narrowing down its list for Chris Fagan's replacement.

Lions assistant Cameron Bruce is the household favourite and will be one of three candidates who have been asked to formally present to the coaching panel, made up of AFL champion Leigh Matthews will serve in an advisory capacity to the selection panel which comprises chair Andrew Wellington, chief executive Sam Graham and footy boss Danny Daly.

The panel will also be supported by Lions champion Simon Black, who presented the premiership cup this year, and club psychologist Matti Clements.

Fagan has previously endorsed Bruce as his successor after multiple seasons working within premiership-winning clubs.

Former Collingwood Grand Final coach and Geelong assistant Nathan Buckley is another who will formally present to Brisbane in a bid to return to the senior coaching caper.

Buckley began his playing career at the Brisbane Bears and joined the Pies whilst Matthews was coaching the club in the mid 1990s.

The 2003 Brownlow Medallist ran close to the Tasmania job and flirted with the Melbourne and North Melbourne roles before opting out of those positions.

According to multiple reports, the Lions are down to three candidates after Murray Davis and Danny Daly both pulled out of the role this month.

West Coast premiership winning coach Adam Simpson looms as a potential option while highly-regarded assistants Brendon Lade and Daniel Giansiracusa have been around the mark on a few occasions.

Brisbane is tipped to appoint a new coach by the end of October or start of November.
