Geelong have confirmed star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has suffered a low-grade hamstring strain, and still remains a chance to line up for the Cats in their Round 1 clash with Melbourne on Sunday, March 25.

Dangerfield injured his hamstring on Sunday in the Cats' JLT loss to Essendon, and will now undergo a program to help him regain fitness before his side's season opener.

Geelong ruckman Rhys Stanley also suffered a low-grade calf strain in the same match.

“This is positive news for Patrick and Rhys and they both have their sights firmly set on Round 1,” Geelong’s General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd told geelongcats.com.au.

“Both Patrick and Rhys will undertake individualised programs over the next 10 days with our medical and fitness staff as they work towards full fitness for the beginning of the season.”
