GWS captain Toby Greene has confirmed he will meet with Geelong, most likely this weekend, while new Essendon coach Mark McVeigh has reached out to the skipper.
Greene is out of contract, and poses as an intriguing free-agent prospect, which will cost clubs nothing in draft and trade capital.
The Cats have been in the running given their premiership credentials as well as hosting best mate Jeremy Cameron at Kardinia Park.
McVeigh and Greene have an existing relationship from when the former was at the Giants, and could be an experienced option at the club.
"I can start thinking about it properly over the next couple of weeks," Greene said on the Ausmerican Aces podcast.
"That's what I said to the Giants. I probably thought about it last week for the first time. I put it in the back of my mind the whole season. As much as people might find that hard to believe, that's the truth.
"A lot of people in Melbourne, or some friends, think I'm definitely going, which is not true. If I was definitely going, I'd say that now and be upfront with the Giants. Make it easier on them.
"Meet with probably Geelong this weekend. Spike (Mark McVeigh) has reached out as well since he got the job and asked could I catch up. I said I'd catch up with him."
Greene assured the reasons if he would leave the Giants wouldn't revolve around what Geelong's facilities can offer, which can be, at times, a real selling point for clubs.
"One, I couldn't really give a f*** about the tour," he said.
"I couldn't care what the footy club looks like. They're a bloody good club. They run things well. That's what I know going into it. I know a couple of people there like their welfare managers. He's an absolute star. Jezza is obviously my best mate.
"I'll meet the footy club and what their direction is in the next few years. That's what I'm worried about. I couldn't care about their weight facilities. I'll do weights at AnyTime Fitness if I have to.
"I don't think we'll meet at the footy club.
"On the back of that, I have family in Victoria. If we were to go, we'd live down that way."
Greene says he hopes to make the decision in the next two weeks.
