After another second-half fade-out against St Kilda, Carlton head coach Michael Voss is under even more pressure, as his looming departure now becomes a question of when, not if.

In a rare positive for the Blues, father-son prospect Cody Walker made his debut for Carlton's VFL side in a five-point victory over St Kilda.

Walker racked up 26 disposals along with five clearances and played a major role in his side's win. Six Points' own Daniel Harford was there to see the young gun in action.

"I'll tell you what he is: he is ultra competitive. I was super impressed. He was the spark for Carlton to get back into that game against St Kilda on the weekend," Harford said.

"They dominated early, and then St Kilda bounced back. He was the one who got things back on track in the third quarter, so they relied on the kid to get them going at VFL level.

"He was brilliant the way he just kept coming up with wins, clean possession, really confident in the air but also at ground level and uses the ball really well, he was very impressive, for a kid on his debut in the VFL, and a lot of pressure on him at the moment, so every time he plays footy there's eyes everywhere watching."

Harford believes Walker could come into consideration with Carlton's decision on Voss's future.

"The other factor that might be coming into Carlton's calculations. Cody Walker was playing in the VFL for the first time in navy blue, whose on the radar, probably a top two pick in the upcoming draft," he said.

"What I saw on Saturday suggested that they should be doing absolutely everything they can to get this kid into their system as cheaply as humanly possible.

"So what's the benefit for them getting up the ladder, maybe win eight games for the year, and have to pay pick 10, and have to go find another first-rounder somewhere.

"So I don't know if that's coming into play, but I would imagine he is a factor in the Michael Voss decision."

Mark Steven's believe Voss's coaching career at the Blues could be over at any time.

"I can't recall it being so early that you've got a coach just sitting there waiting to go basically," Stevens said.

"If I saw an email come through today that there is a press conference, major announcement, and Voss is gone, I would not be surprised; it could happen at any time.

"You have to question now when they finish the job, because it's a painful time at the moment, it is so obvious he won't be the coach of Carlton next year.

"Everything's going the wrong way for Michael Voss."
