Brisbane Lions midfielder-forward Cam Rayner has been handed a $1500 fine after staging for a free kick in Sunday's horror loss against the GWS Giants.

The former number one pick exacerbated the gentlest of contact from Giant Jake Riccardi in the first quarter of the contest, and was awarded with a free kick, which he converted into a goal.

It was one of three such incidents from the weekend, heightening the hoopla around a potential increase to the fine attached to staging - Rayner's sanction can be reduced to $1000 with an early plea.

Giant Connor Idun was fined the same amount for striking Logan Morris in the second quarter.

Earlier in the weekend's action, Josh Rachele saw his flop come under significant scrutiny, and was fined the same way Rayner has been. Nick Daicos miraculously escaped sanction for a similar act in his side's close-run win over a renewed, competitive West Coast Eagles side.
