GWS captain Toby Greene has once again become the AFL's most fined player in history following two separate occasions during Sunday's victory against Collingwood at ENGIE Stadium.

Greene was cited by the Match Review Officer (MRO), which has become a regular occurrence throughout his career, totalling over $40,000 since 2012.

The Giants captain copped a $1,500 sanction ($1,000 guilty plea) for carelessly contacting an umpire during the second quarter of the win.

However, Greene narrowly escaped any match suspension after the MRO graded his kneeing (third offence) to Pies defender Reef McInnes in the third quarter as intentional conduct, low impact and body conduct, resulting in a $10,000 fine ($6,250 guilty plea).

His kneeing charge was a third offence so he has been offered a higher fine.

If Greene accepts both sanctions as guilty pleas, it'll take his career total to $42,750.

The two fines represent the 26th and 27th charges of his career as footy's most charged player in AFL history.

Teammate Lachie Ash was also noticed by the MRO and not in a good way, copping a rough conduct charge on Collingwood great Scott Pendlebury in the third quarter.

Ash can accept a $3,750 early plea ($6,250 fine) for the offence, which was deemed as careless conduct, low impact and high contact.

The only other charge from the weekend was Hawthorn's Jai Newcombe tripping offence on Sydney's James Rowbottom.

  1. McInnes is lucky that he didn’t get a kick in the head – as the thug has a long history that includes cheap shots in “contests” when an opponent is vulnerable or looking elsewhere.

    I’m a croweater (which means the vics wont understand this) …. but It’d have been “interesting” to see this coward try in on with a John Wynne or any other of the old genuine ‘hard men” (or any of their team mates) from the ’70s. He’d have ended up hook in hoof next to the grandstand.

    green is a cheap sniper in the mould of a david granger, it’s never a standup – it’s always when an opponent is vulnerable or blindsided. I’d be very surprised if West Sydney won a premiership with such as “captain”.
