Hawthorn midfielder Jai Newcombe has been slapped with a hefty $10,000 for a fourth tripping offence in Friday's win against Sydney.

Newcombe was the sole match review incident from the clash, and can escape with a $6,250 fine with an early plea.

The Match Review Officer (MRO) graded the incident as intentional conduct, low impact and body contact.

Given his fourth offence, the 23-year-old could be in jeopardy of missing a game if he engages in tripping again.

Newcombe was one of the Hawks' best against the Swans, gathering 19 touches, nine clearances, seven tackles and a goal in the 20-point victory.

Fellow on-baller Will Day was arguably best afield after slotting three majors alongside his 26 possessions and nine clearances.

Day came from the field after a marking contest but managed to play through the game, while James Worpel was seen in a moon boot after hurting his ankle and was replaced by substitute Sam Frost.

Recruits Tom Barrass (nine disposals, six marks and five intercept possessions) and Josh Battle (13 touches, six marks and three inside 50s) slotted in seamlessly.
