Collingwood skipper Darcy Moore has indicated he has not extensive thought to handing over the reigns of the Magpies captaincy.
It has been speculated that next season would be the right time for Collingwood to make a captaincy change to allow Moore to focus on continuity and returning to his best form and he was asked about it on AFL 360 on Tuesday.
“Not specifically (considered when to hand it over) at this stage but I think another thing that's been great for me as the captain has been seeing Nick and Brayden as they're trading the captaincy duties, how much they've both blossomed this season,” Moore said.
“It's been incredible to watch. On the field, the incredible performances Nick is putting up so consistently and then Brayden's leadership is so obvious to see when he's bringing his physicality and dragging the team over the line like we saw a couple of weeks ago against the Gold Coast was really cool.
“So that makes me feel like leadership in our group is in a strong place and the sign of a good leader is that it's shared and lots of guys can come through so that's happening on the field and behind the scenes, our program's functioning as smoothly as ever and that comes down to the whole group and how they function.”
Moore assumed the role from Scott Pendlebury in 2023, captaining Collingwood to a premiership in his first season, a time where he was viewed as one of the best defenders in the AFL.
While his form waivered at times last year, he was instrumental in the finals series, but a hamstring injury has kept him to just four games this year.
“We're pretty lucky, our coach holds the reigns of a lot of our program over to our senior players which is the key to a successful group, giving those guys agency,” Moore added.
“Even though I've been more absent this year, they've taken the baton and run with it. Overall, as the captain, I'm just stoked with where the group's at.”
