The contest between Western Australia and South Australia will be played on Saturday, February 27 at 4:40pm (AWST) at Optus Stadium as AFL Origin continues its revival.

It will be 30 years since these states met in a competitive match, with the AFL reintroducing the concept earlier this year, with WA hosting Victoria in a thrilling game.

The 2027 AAMI AFL Origin match will mark 50 years since the first Australian Rules Football State of Origin match, which was played at Subiaco Oval between Western Australia and Victoria in 1977; next year also marks 150 years of the SANFL.

The future of AFL Origin has been locked in until 2029.

“We are thrilled to officially confirm a date for AAMI AFL Origin in 2027, with Western Australia and South Australia set to reignite one of football's greatest rivalries next February," AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said.

“Optus Stadium provided an incredible stage for AFL Origin's return earlier this year and we look forward to continuing to build on that momentum as we prepare for a meeting of two proud football states in Perth.

“We know football fans around the country will embrace the opportunity to celebrate the history, rivalry and unique spectacle that is AFL Origin.

“Thank you to Premier Roger Cook and the Western Australian Government for their support in delivering one of the highlights of the football calendar.”

Western Australian Premier Roger Cook was excited that the future of AFL Origin has been cemented.

"Western Australia is the natural home of AFL Origin, and we're thrilled to welcome it back to Optus Stadium on 27 February next year," Cook said.

"This blockbuster clash against South Australia will bring thousands of visitors to our State, supporting our hotels, hospitality businesses and local jobs while showcasing Western Australia to audiences across the country.

"Next year's match will be particularly special as we celebrate 50 years since the first State of Origin match was played right here in Western Australia.

"Following the incredible success of this year's event, we're proud to have secured AFL Origin for both 2027 and 2029, cementing Perth's place on the national sporting calendar."

Tickets for the 2027 AFL Origin will go on sale via Ticketmaster on December 2 (club members) and December 3 (general public) at 9am AWST/12pm AEDT.
