Hawthorn midfielder Cam Mackenzie has penned a two-year contract extension with the Hawks, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026 season.
The Hawks recruited the 19-year-old in the 2022 National Draft, and Mackenzie has put together an impressive beginning thus far to his AFL career.
Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie expressed his pleasure in the young midfielder penning a new deal.
“Seeing the commitment Cam has made is really pleasing, we are very confident he has a bright future here at Hawthorn,” McKenzie said.
“Cam of course was a highly touted junior with an elite ball-winning and kicking ability. But what's really stood out since joining the Hawks is his work ethic and composure, which is impressive for a 19-year-old."
“With our list's young age profile, we absolutely see Cam establishing himself as a key cog in our midfield for long time ahead for the brown and gold.”
The top ten draft pick has already cemented himself as a consistent figure under new head coach Sam Mitchell.
The new coach has allowed Mackenzie to play midfield as well as drifting into the forward line. So far, the 19-year-old has averaged nearly 15 disposals along with 3.7 tackles a game.
Mackenzie joins a growing list of Hawthorn youngsters who have signed on this year, joining the likes of Dylan Moore, Max Ramsden and Hawks sensation Will Day.
McKenzie hopes the re-signing will be another step toward creating a new direction for the club.
“With our list's young age profile, we absolutely see Cam establishing himself as a key cog in our midfield for long time ahead for the brown and gold," he said.
Mackenzie is in the frame to play against West Coast this weekend in Tasmania.
