Get excited footy fans! We are just seven days away from the start of the 2021 AFL season.

You know what that means - it is that time of the year where AFL media personalities, journalists, ex-greats and general punters alike make their predictions for the upcoming campaign.

AFL legends Garry Lyon and Tim Watson have revealed their premierships tips for the 2021 season on SEN radio this morning.

Both Lyon and Watson have backed in the 2020 grand finalists to again feature at the pointy end of the season, however, took opposing views on the premier.

Lyon believes the Cats will avenge last year's loss and lift their 10th cup - coming off an off-season coup where they landed Jeremy Cameron, Isaac Smith and Shaun Higgins.

The former Demons skipper is further assured by their return to Kardinia Park.

“I’ve got them (Geelong) winning it,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“I think they’re going to put themselves in contention, and they always will because they win the requisite number of games because they’re a very good side and have home games in the cat land, and then I just think there’s only going to be a few more chances for these boys.

“We’re just guessing, but that’s where I’ve got them.”

Meanwhile, Watson likes the Tigers winning their third consecutive premiership, including four of the last five.

Richmond endured an eventful off-season as the fallout from coach Damien Hardwick's split with his wife and new relationship with a female club staffer played out publicly.

And while it reportedly caused a stir at the club and may have deterred some people from backing the yellow and black in again, Watson isn't concerned.

“I’ve got them right up there competing again, in the top four and competing for another flag,” he said.

“I haven’t got them winning it, I’ve got Richmond winning it.”

The Tigers open their campaign against Carlton next Thursday night at the MCG, while Geelong travel to Adelaide Oval that Saturday to face the Crows.
