Hollywood actor Matt Damon last week did an interview from inside a TAB... and Australia went nuts.

The Aussie public can never seem to wrap their head around an international celebrity at an Australian venue.

Good Will Punting has reminded us of some of the great celeb encounters in footy... and boy are there a lot of them.

It has become a obligation for A-listers that they put on a guernsey and smile to the cameras as soon as they step foot on the continent.

Here are some of the best celebrity AFL moments over the journey:

USA BASKETBALL TEAM

Back in 2019 at the MCGG, Brian Taylor started a 'Roaming Brian' with the USA basketball team and they all seemed equally confused about the situation.

Utah Jazz star Donavon Mitchell admitted "I kind of don't know what's going on," which just about sums it up.

The players were dutiful, but USA basketball coach Gregg Popovich was less comfortable getting interviewed and totally blanked BT.

NATALIE PORTMAN

In 2018, Natalie Portman showed up at a Melbourne training session and even chucked on a guernsey.

Social media went into meltdown as the club flaunted its new recruit and the stunt was a success.

Completing the crossover, Portman returned to America and spoke about the strange sport on Ellen.

ZACH EFRON AND ADAM DEVINE

In 2016, Zac Efron and Adam LeVine came out to promote a movie and got coerced into a photo op with the Sydney Swans.

The two didn't seem to know anything about the game but played along anyway.

CONAN O'BRIEN

The Swans also welcomed American talk show host Conan O'Brien a few years later when he took his late night show to Australia.

The talk show host pranced around in a Sydney outfit, showing off his tanned and chiselled physique.

The clip makes for funny viewing and has since been viewed by millions.

MR. BEAN

A forgotten gem from 2007 is when Mr. Bean surprised all and showed up to the Collingwood Football Club.

Promoting the latest Mr. Bean movie, Rowan Atkinson stayed in character the entire time and even brought in a photo of Nathan Buckley for the skipper to autograph.

It's hard to tell whether the stunt is the dumbest or smartest celebrity promotion in football history but either way it's worth remembering.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON

Seemingly every time a big star comes out to Australia, their publicist will force them into an AFL guernsey.

In 1998, someone somehow convinced Samuel L. Jackson to wear a St. Kilda guernsey and take a hanger over Robert Harvey.

The result speaks for itself.

RAY CHARLES

The same year Brisbane decided to one-up the Saints by handing Ray Charles a Lions guernsey.

He didn't go as far as putting it on but seemed happy enough to hold it.

ABBA

One of the most famous celebrity endorsements came from back in 1977 when Carlton convinced ABBA to don the navy blue.

The band was at the peak of their powers and the decision turned out to be a masterstroke, as the Swedes wore it repeatedly throughout their Australian tour.

Even more remarkable, singer Agnetha Fältskog wore it in Switzerland two years later during a music video for 'Chiquitita'.

JOE BIDEN

Then Vice President and current leader of the free world Joe Biden accepted an invite to the MCG in 2016, holding a Sherrin in front of the cameras.

Biden's old boss Barack Obama also got handed a West Coast Eagles jumper with his name on it back in 2011.

SNOOP DOG

Somehow Snoop Dogg ended up in a Gold Coast Suns jersey back in 2014... and even busted out some rhymes with it on.

Controversial from a rapper that claims to be from the West Coast...

VIRAT KOHLI

In 2015, Virat Kohli showed his support for the Tigers.

Even though he held the footy like it was a toothbrush commercial, the superstar cricketer was still a welcome endorsement at Tigerland.

DALAI LAMA

No one is safe from being handed a Sherrin, not even the spiritual leader of Tibet.

Heritier Lumumba (then named Harry O'Brien) visited the Dalai Lama in 2011 and handed him a footy.

His Holiness looked so comfortable carrying the pill that Collingwood offered him a spot in their midfield the following year.

ROB LOWE

In 2003, actor Rob Lowe managed to join the huddle for the Collingwood theme song post game.

With his arms around Eddie Maguire, Lowe attempted to mouth the words to the amusement of the players.

ELLE MACPHERSON

One of the most memorable endorsements in football history was back in 1990 when Elle Macpherson posed in a St. Kilda guernsey.

The footy world went mad and Danny Frawley famously refused to take his photo with her down from his living room wall.

The photoshoot was great for sales and has provided us with one of Tony Jones' creepiest faces.
