West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen has spoken on his pending contract decision in the wake of the star forward being linked to Brisbane.

Allen was reported to have held talks with the reigning premiers over the off-season ahead of his free agency year, with the local attacker's contract with the Eagles reaching its expiry in 2025.

The Lions' interest comes after Joe Daniher's retirement, with the Queensland club expected to be active on the open market to find a replacement for the premiership forward.

Allen looms as the best key forward unsigned beyond the coming season, leading to Brisbane's potential pursuit of the 25-year-old.

The Whitford junior isn't expected to rush into a decision on his future, with Allen tellingย AFL.com.au that he's "not sure what the future lies".

"It's probably something you don't think about when you're playing," Allen said of his incoming call.ย  "You've kinda just got your head in the sand trying to get better every day.

"I'm not sure what the future lies, but I have enjoyed, and am still enjoying, my time with the footy club.

"That's why guys have managers I suppose, so they can look over those things for you.

"I grew up in Western Australia and am really fortunate to co-captain the footy club. I clearly love the football club. I'm sure things will get worked out."

Allen has been an integral piece in the club's limited success over the past several seasons, enjoying a breakout 53-goal campaign in 2023 - a season that netted the Eagles just three wins and a wooden spoon.

The tall forward was named captain the following year and has seen his tenure as skipper extended into 2025, which shapes as an intriguing year off the back of the arrival of Andrew McQualter as coach.

Speaking recently, McQualter expressed his confidence in the club retaining their star forward.

"This is what our industry is now with free agency," the Eagles coach said on Wide World of Sportsย over the weekend.

"We're really confident (he'll stay). Oscar loves our football club, we love Oscar. We're confident something will get done in the not-too-distant future."

Allen is continuing to work through an uninterrupted pre-season, having dealt with a knee injury that kept him to 11 games last year.
