Former Brisbane coach Michael Voss has admitted he was making things up as he went during the initial stages of his tenure at the Lions.

Voss played 289 games for Brisbane between 1992-2006, winning three premierships and captaining the side for the final 10 years of his career.

The Lions legend then spent just two years out of the game before returning to the club to coach Brisbane in 2009, although Voss didn't have the greatest time in charge, finishing his 109-game coaching career with 43 wins, 65 losses and one draw.

Voss joined SEN Breakfastย on Wednesday morning to discuss his the Lions, and was asked whether or not he believes he would be better the second time around.

โ€œMost people would think yes on that," Voss said.

โ€œThe experience that you go into next time is completely different. In a lot of ways, my first go at it was making stuff up as you go, which was a pretty hard way to learn.

โ€œWhen you get the chance to be able to step away from that and work on the things that you need to get right, youโ€™re always going to be a bit healthier second time around.โ€

Voss is now on the coaching panel at Port Adelaide, and has been the midfield manager since the end of 2014.

While a head coaching role might be in Voss' plans for the future, he admitted he's 100% committed and focused to helping the Power achieve great things first.

โ€œItโ€™s the furthest thing from my mind, to be honest with you,โ€ he said about coaching.

โ€œI think weโ€™ve had such a healthy start to the season with Port and how we are going as a footy team. It would be really nice to be able to have a really strong season with this team and figure in some finals football.โ€
