Victorian AFL crowd limits are set to be boosted ahead of this weekend's Round 17 fixtures.

As first reported by The Age's Daniel Cherny, crowd numbers are set to permit up to 75 per cent of respective venue capacities, with a set limit of no more than 30,000 fans at each event.

These figures are an increase from the restrictions in place over the past weeks, which saw 50 per cent crowd capacities at a maximum of 25,000 attendees.

With Victoria having combatted their most recent COVID-19 breakout - which saw matches played before closed doors in the past month - restrictions are now being lifted to allow more patrons to attend this weekend.

Round 17 will see Carlton host Geelong and Richmond facing Collingwood at the MCG, while Essendon play Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs host Sydney at Marvel Stadium.

The AFL is yet to finalise the venues for Greater Western Sydney vs Gold Coast and Brisbane vs St Kilda.

The Lions have ventured to the Gold Coast in hope of playing in Queensland this week after staying in Melbourne and playing in Adelaide over the last few days.

The Giants and Suns clash remains up in the air for a venue, with reports suggesting the clash could be held at Mars Stadium, Ballarat.
