Geelong has fended off interest from a number of clubs to land Australian basketball prodigy Paul Tsapatolis.

Standing at 202cm, the ruck prospect will join the Cats as a Category B rookie on a two-year deal.

Dubbed the 'Greek Freak', Tsapatolis captained Vic Metro's underage basketball teams and represented Australia at the FIBA Oceania (2019) and Asia (2018) tournaments.

Tsapatolis last played football as a 13-year-old for the Yarraville Seddon Eagles in 2015.

But his lack of football action in the last five years did not deter Essendon, Sydney, Melbourne, North Melbourne and Adelaide from enquiring about the new Geelong recruit.

Tsapatolis will be developed into a ruckman to compete for a place in the senior team alongside Rhys Stanley, Darcy Fort and Esava Ratugolea.
