VFL players Tyler Sellars (Essendon) and Josh Clarke (St Kilda) could receive some scrutiny from the Match Review Panel (MRP) after incidentally making umpire contact.

In a weekend where Collingwood's Brayden Maynard has been heavily examined over his approach to a half-time melee against Gold Coast after a nasty hit from Ben Long resulted in a field umpire getting knocked.

Maynard was closely followed by Touk Miller, and the pair were fined $5000 for the incident.

On Sunday, not long after the Suns-Pies incident, Sellars and Clarke got caught in a tussle which ended up checking the umpire with the former's body.

Clarke, in a bid to remonstrate, attempted to push Sellars, only to make contact with the field umpire, hitting him in the face.

The Saint immediately apologised and tried to explain how the contact came about.

The AFL stood firm last week in its stance against public feedback and criticism of umpiring, and isn't expected to take a dim view of the situation in the state league.
