It's a sombre day, is ANZAC Day.

A day Australians come together to recall with reverence of the sacrifices of the men and women who have served this country.

Since 1995, two of of the nation's biggest sporting clubs have gone head to head on April 25th, serving up countless classics to do their part in honouring the servicemen and women the day celebrates.

Collingwood, and Essendon. Two Victorian powerhouses who, over the years, have seen their colours adorned by some of the codes biggest names. Here's a ranking of 10 of the very best players who have featured in the Magpies v Bombers showpiece since its inception. It's some list if Gavin Brown and Nick Daicos can't get a gig!

6. Gavin Wanganeen

Gavin Wanganeen left an indelible mark at the Hangar in a stunningly short period. In only six seasons at Windy Hill, he won a premiership and Brownlow in the same year, and did enough to make their Team of the Century despite donning the sash only 127 times.

He would defect to his beloved Port Adelaide upon their entry into the AFL, and was their inaugural captain. There, he'd win a second premiership, and register another podium finish in the Brownlow medal count. He won five All-Australian blazers in a scintillating 11-year period.

A true trailblazer for the Indigenous community, Wanganeen was the first First Nations footballer to win the Brownlow Medal, and the first to play 300 AFL games. He was also the youngest player to take home "Charlie" in 57 years, doing so at the tender age of 20.
