AFL journalist Garry Lyon believes Richmond can solidify themselves as the best team in the AFL if they are successful in beating Melbourne on Tuesday night.

A victory could potentially land the Tigers at the top of the ladder once round five is all said and done, and Lyon claims that Richmond could very well own that number one spot ahead of the rest of the competition.

The Tigers sent a message to the rest of the league in round four after delivering a thumping 93-point victory against the Brisbane Lions and will be looking to back up that effort versus the Dees.

“I think Richmond can separate themselves from 17 other sides with a really solid and comprehensive win,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“Melbourne puts themselves back in the conversation if they win ... there is so much riding on it.”

If the Tigers do get the victory, it would see the Demons fall to 2-3 after five rounds, despite being one of the hottest teams entering the home-and-away season.
