Hawthorn has welcomed Gold Coast VFL coach and Head of Development Tate Kaesler to the club ahead of the 2027 AFL season.

Kaesler led the Suns' reserves side and previously worked at Adelaide as a development coach before taking charge of the defensive line.

He spent eight years at the Suns in a variety of roles, including development, backline assistant, defensive strategist, midfield coach and midfield opposition analysis.

Kaesler spent 11 years at the Crows, starting as a merchandise manager before joining the recruiting and development teams.

Kaesler was the national women's league team coaching advisor and finished at West Lakes as the club's team defence specialist coach.

Kaesler also featured in the SANFL for North Adelaide and Sturt as a player.

"We are thrilled to welcome Tate to our coaching group ahead of the 2027 season," Hawks football boss Rob McCartney said.

“Bringing a wealth of knowledge, Tate will work closely with both our emerging list and the broader coaching team to continue elevating our development program.

"He has a great reputation for fostering young talent and will complement our exciting and emerging development coaching team."

Kaesler joins Richmond premiership player Dion Prestia as a new development coach at the Hawks.

The club lost Brett Ratten, who joined Richmond as the Head of performance and development in 2027.
