Whether it is through player improvement or through coaching methods, every action has an equal and opposite reaction to what fans have come to expect from the years prior, with a player's form or a lapse in coaching sometimes either making or breaking a season.
Accounting for this, I took a look at each team's surprise player or coach and each team's shocking disappointment.
Collingwood
Surprise: Angus Anderson
Dubbed by the Magpie army as 'Angry' Anderson, the mature-aged midfielder was heavily overlooked in the draft before coming in and stamping his style of intensity on the game. Heart, determination and will, he's everything you'd want in a first-year player coming into a side trying to contend.
Shock: Darcy Moore
The Collingwood skipper has been one of the most disappointing players this season and has looked like a shell of his former self since. Injuries aside, Moore has lost his presence in the contest and sits at a career-low 6.3 disposals per game, making it all the more likely he steps down from his leadership role very soon.
