Surprise and revelation, shock and disappointment - the emotions that drive every footy fan. They bring people together to either share in their frustrations or revel in their unfiltered joy.

Whether it is through player improvement or through coaching methods, every action has an equal and opposite reaction to what fans have come to expect from the years prior, with a player's form or a lapse in coaching sometimes either making or breaking a season.

Accounting for this, I took a look at each team's surprise player or coach and each team's shocking disappointment.

Sydney

Surprise: Justin McInerney

Touted as the most improved player in the first 10 weeks of the season, McInerney was able to fill the void of an injured Erol Gulden for Sydney and one of thirteen players to average 20+ disposals with a goal. McInerney suffered a hamstring strain that has kept him out since Round 13, and when he returns, the Swans could be a serious premiership threat.

Shock: Jake Lloyd

A bit harsh here, but that just goes to show how consistent the Swans have been from last year, with not many of their core players dropping off in form. Lloyd is a forward now, and with that comes the task of re-learning the game, which is difficult for any player.
