While players, coaches and umpires often steal the spotlight, cheer squads are the volunteers who work tirelessly to help create the atmosphere that makes the AFL special.

Dedicated volunteers spend countless hours creating banners, cheering their hearts out and supporting their club through the rollercoaster that is a season.

While every club has volunteers working behind the scenes, these cheer squads stand out. One thing is certain: AFL cheer squads are the heartbeat of the game as they travel across the country and stand behind their clubs through the highs and lows.

Here is the ranking of AFL cheer squads:

5Sydney

The Sydney Swans cheer squad is one of the most dedicated in the competition. Despite being in a rugby dominated city, Swans supporters turn out in strong numbers and create a loud atmosphere. They also have a Victorian-based Sydney Swans group. That shows commitment. Having also endured a few recent grand final losses, they continue to travel around the country to support the mighty Swans.
