The crater Chris Fagan will leave in Brisbane following his departure will be impossible to fill, especially after how he built the Lions from the depths of irrelevance to arguably the best team of the modern era.
Fagan secured a revered three-peat of premierships last week, but has admitted it was time to hang up the whistle, with a move to Melbourne to be closer to family on the cards.
But who is equipped to take over the Lions as they hunt for a historic four-peat?
There are a few names internally who have been floated, while a host of assistant coaches have been around the mark with previous coaching vacancies.
Murray Davis
Davis departed the Lions after the 2024 premiership, moving to Adelaide.
But he still harbours a strong desire to be an AFL coach, reflected by his shortlisting in the Essendon coaching race, which was won by Mark McVeigh.
Could Davis return to Queensland for a club he is so familiar with?
The process was really thorough, (and) I loved every minute of it," Davis said on ABC Grandstand in August.
"I got some great feedback, and that will hold me in great stead down the track.
"Should there be another club out there that would like me to go through the process, I would certainly put my hand up again."
