The 2026 trade and free agency period is done, but there is no rest for the wicked in the AFL.

List managers and recruiters will already be doing the groundwork on next year's uncontracted stars, trying to lure them to their respective clubs.

And 2027's list of uncontracted players and free agents is eye-catching.

Here at Zero Hanger, we have listed the 14 biggest names that head into next season with only one year remaining on their deals, and the clubs that will be eyeing them off like a lion with a gazelle.

The rebounding Giant had a career-best season in 2026, culminating in a maiden All-Australian blazer and club best-and-fairest.

Ash, along with star teammate Tom Green, are viewed as the main stars and future of the club, and the Giants are shifting players around to make sure they can afford both going forward.

The 25-year-old half-back has enjoyed his seven seasons at the club after being taken with Pick 4.

However, Ash is a countryman from regional Victoria and loves his time back home on the farm. This normally points to a move to Geelong.

Ash hits free agency status next season and will be a big watch in the trade space.

Potential suitors: Geelong, St Kilda, Collingwood, Richmond, Melbourne
