Defenders

Back Pocket - Liam Jones (Carlton)

Jones blanketed Suns co-captain Tom Lynch after a second successive strong performance in his AFL return. Lynch was held to just 10 touches, one mark and one scoring shot in the Blues' win as Jones has re-endeared himself to the Blues' faithful.

Full Back - Alex Rance (Richmond)

Rance's heavyweight battle with Lance Franklin was a highlight of the weekend's play, with the star Tiger doing all he could to will the Tigers over the line late in the game.

12 of his 21 touches were intercept possessions (three more than his season average) as he kept Franklin to just one goal.

Back Pocket - Michael Hibberd (Melbourne)

The former Bomber appears to be loving life at his new club as he continues to excel in 2017.

11 marks led to 27 touches as he was repeatedly a nuisance for the Dogs forward line.

Half Back - Sam Docherty (Carlton)

The star Blue continued his outstanding 2017 season with a stunning game against the Suns with 30 touches at an amazing 97 per cent efficiency while taking nine marks, laying nine tackles and having a hand in five scoring plays in the win.

Centre Half Back - David Astbury (Richmond)

Was just as good as Rance on Saturday afternoon, with 12 intercept possessions of his own to go along with 13 marks in defence.

Half Back - Darcy Byrne-Jones (Port Adelaide)

The young Power defender had the best performance of his career to-date with the 21-year-old tallying 25 disposals (12 contested), four marks, four tackles and six inside 50s which included 379m gained in a solid night's work.
