Tasmania Devils have backed their decision to axe VFL captain Robbie Fox, saying it wasn't one particular incident that led to his departure.

The Devils didn't offer inaugural captain Fox a contract for 2027, with the club initially citing the failure of "expectations regarding player behaviour and adherence to our standards".

It's understood an incident occurred at a Hobart pub, the Granada Tavern, where Fox was ejected from the venue after becoming drunk and disorderly. A bottle was also believed to have been thrown and smashed.

Nobody is believed to have been injured, and there was no police involvement.

"I want to be really clear, there was no particular one incident that led to this decision," Chief marketing officer Kath McCann said.

"To respect all of those who have been impacted and involved, we won't be releasing any further public information.

"Our club has very high standards, and we're very proud of that, and that's something we will continue to ensure, and we expect that of everyone, in particular our leaders.

"I think it's fair to say not everyone gets everything right, and there have been situations where Robbie had some areas for improvement and growth, and he's dealing with the consequences of that.

"People want information and want detail, but what I ask and what the club asks is that we respect that this matter has been dealt with with Robbie, and we are very confident and very comfortable with where it's landed.

"He's been a really important part of our inaugural year, and he's a really great person."

McCann confirmed Fox would continue as the club's Strategic Projects Lead and defended the decision to keep him as an employee.

Fox played 13 games for the Devils in an injury-affected year after the Sydney Swans delisted him and he returned to his native Tasmania.

He was aligned with SFL club Lauderdale during 2026, and could sign with the side full time next year.
