Jevan Phillipou has been knocking down the door of Sydney coach Dean Cox's office for an AFL debut, and his time is close.

Cox put Phillipou on the radar in recent weeks, and his form in the VFL hasn't wavered, instead, it has risen to eyebrow-raising heights.

The younger brother of St Kilda player Mattaes kicked five goals over the weekend in the 133-point win over Sandringham Dragons, taking his tally to 23 from 12 outings this season.

In the past three weeks, Phillipou has slotted 11 majors, putting his name firmly into consideration.

Phillipou joined the club in last year's draft with Pick 35, which could shape as a major steal for Sydney. He's been described as a powerful midfield-forward and is a high-impact player forward of the ball, while applying immense pressure.

It comes after the Swans were downed by the reigning premiers, Brisbane, by 43 points at the Gabba, and could look to make some selection changes.

Caiden Cleary struggled to have scoreboard impact while Malcolm Rosas went goalless.

Sydney will also expect to welcome back defensive duo Dane Rampe (nine touches and three marks) and Lewis Melican (15 possessions and eight marks) to the senior side after the pair returned from injury via the VFL.

Axed forward-ruck Hayden McLean dominated in his return to the reserves, slotting six goals in the big win whilst pinch-hitting in stoppages.

McLean has fallen victim to the forward line squeeze following the arrival of Charlie Curnow in the Harbour City.

A watch will be on Joel Amartey against the Western Bulldogs in Round 17 after he failed to finish the Lions clash with an Achilles injury.

Cox was hopeful the injury Amartey sustained wasn't too bad, and that he's available to train ahead of Friday's game.

Omitted Swan Matt Roberts responded strongly to his axing over the weekend, and will be around the mark for a recall.

Roberts gathered 38 touches, seven clearances and 11 marks.

His efforts were matched by Billy Cootee (two goals and 37 possessions), Corey Warner (three goals and 31 touches) and Tom Hanily (two goals and 34 disposals).
