The Sydney Swans have spoken on the potential acquisition of two-time Coleman medallist Charlie Curnow from the Carlton football club.
The Swans have made it their "priority" to acquire the star forward in this year's AFL Trade Period.
The Swans have had discussions with Curnow about the move, but Carlton have been quick to shut down the idea of a trade.
Swans are still very "hopeful" that he will be playing for the red and white next season.
"We're clearly interested in bringing Charlie to the football club," Swans list lead Chris Keane said.
"We've had some communication with Charlie, most of it through his management."
The Swans have been desperate to find their next star forward since Lance Franklin left, but have found it hard to find one through injuries to Joel Amartey and Logan McDonald.
The Swans would need to find an intriguing price for Curnow, which could involve moving players such as Will Hayward and Oli Florent, who have been at the forefront of those rumours.
Sydney also has Picks 10, 31, 51 and 69 in this year's AFL Draft, which could entice the Blues.
"I'm pretty pragmatic around this trade period and these types of trades, both parties have to be pretty clear that they're improving on field, off field, or anything else," Keane added.
Sydney have yet to propose the idea of getting a fresh start at Carlton to any players, but aren't ruling out that those discussions from happening.
"We haven't had those conversations as of yet," Keane said.
Curnow has been one of the biggest names headlining the AFL Trade Period this year, with the Sydney Swans and Geelong Cats rumoured to be the two teams most interested in the star.
Sydney will look to acquire Curnow in what could be a long stalemate between the involved parties.
