Melbourne stars Tom McDonald and Clayton Oliver are racing the clock in order to be named on Sunday for their season opening clash against the Cats.
While they were at training on Monday, they were both on light duties, spending all their time away from the main group working with rehab coach, Daniel Cross.
McDonald is struggling with a niggling toe injury, doing the whole session in runners, signalling he may have to wait until next week to begin his season.
While for Oliver, he is still on light duties after copping a knock to his knee against the Saints in the last of their JLT Series matches.
The Demons however, are confident Oliver has enough time to be 100% come Sunday.
Nathan Jones [back], Alex Neal-Bullen [quad] and Jordan Lewis [calf] all look to start their seasons on Sunday against Geelong, after recovering from their respective injuries.
Melbourne have suggested co-captain Jack Viney may still be a while off, with Viney currently targeting a round three return, which is likely to come in the VFL.
Viney is still struggling with a foot injury that hampered the end of his 2017 campaign, and had his second bout of surgery on his troublesome foot during the off-season.
