Two-time St Kilda best and fairest winner Seb Ross has warmed the hearts of Saints fans with the revelation that he is locked in at the St Kilda football club for at least another year, having met a games trigger on his expiring contract signed in 2021.

The 29-year-old signed a two-year deal before the '21 season, but broke the news of his trigger to CODE Sports on Sunday.

"Here's an exclusive: I actually hit a trigger in my contract last year, so I'm actually not a free agent,” Ross said.

“That's not news to me, but I hit a trigger last year for that third year, so I'm contracted for next year. So you can stop talking about me, I'm not going anywhere.”

The comments add to a blazing period at Moorabbin, where the Saints remain atop the AFL table after a 22-point win over a rebounding Carlton side at Marvel Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Ross himself has been an instrumental part of this St Kilda rejuvenation under Ross Lyon, providing 25 disposals and five inside 50s per game in 2023, lifting an undermanned side without multiple leaders to a near-perfect 5-1 start.

For St Kilda, there is now one less player to worry about as the contractual focus shifts towards re-signing Jade Gresham, Mason Wood, Dan McKenzie and Jimmy Webster sometime this year; all of whom are free agents at season's end.
