St Kilda are confident a fresh injury concern for young star Max King won't hinder the key forward's current recovery timeline, with the club awaiting scans after King left the track on Wednesday with a hamstring complaint.

King was already sidelined for the start of the season after requiring shoulder surgery in the pre-season, with the club confirming earlier this week the 22-year-old will require at least a further six weeks out of action.

Zero Hanger understands that a recent hamstring issue has further compounded King's injury woes ahead of Round 1, however the club believes the setback won't delay his return to the field.

King, who has claimed the club's leading goalkicker award in the past two seasons, has amassed 60 games in the red, white and black since debuting in 2020.

The East Sandringham product missed his rookie season due to rehabilitation on an ACL injury.

The Saints are already without senior forward target Tim Membrey (knee) for the opening rounds of the home and away season, while versatile tall Jack Hayes' (foot) return date has faced delays, with the South Australian expected to miss the first half of the season.

The trio of absences have placed Supplemental Selection Period recruit Anthony Caminiti in the frame to make his AFL debut just a month after joining the club.

Caminiti, a 196cm forward, and first-round draft selection Mattaes Phillipou are set to lace up the boots on Sunday should they get through this week's remaining training session unscathed.

"We're likely to have Phillipou and Caminiti as debutants," Saints senior coach Ross Lyon told media this week.

"They need to get through today's session and Friday, and then hopefully they get over the line. It's looking likely and that's exciting."

The Saints had trialled free agency recruit Zaine Cordy and defensive stalwart Dougal Howard in attack over the pre-season, with the Saints' answer to their attacking void set to be made clearer come selection on Thursday.

Lyon's first test back at Linton Street comes in the form of his old side Fremantle at Marvel Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

St Kilda will name their squad for Round 1 at 6:20pm (AEDT) on Thursday, with their interchange and emergencies locked in the following evening.
