As the home stretch of the season nears, the focus on player movement, trade rumours and free agency news increases.

Early into the campaign, and potentially before it started, clubs had begun planning potential targets, in-house retentions and assessing the open market.

The past week alone has seen new names emerge as trade options for 2025, with a frigne Giant and a Swans defender among them.

Here's all the latest AFL trade news from the past week...

Collingwood "confident" of securing King

The Magpies are said to be "very, very confident" in luring Gold Coast spearhead Ben King to Olympic Park next year.

King is under contract for the next 16 months, and will hit free agency at the cessation of the 2026 season.

Despite having some time to run on his deal, Collingwood have reportedly commenced their play to lure the Victorian back to his home state, holding hope King will be wearing black and white from 2027 onwards.

"We've heard a lot about the interest in Ben King for years here in the Victorian clubs but I have it on good authority that Collingwood are very, very confident that this time next year that Ben King will be a Magpie, or very close to it," Ryabn Daniels told Triple M.

Steele is signed to the Saints until the end of 2027, meaning any club keen would need to trade for the 29-year-old and appease the Saints.

AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey has stated there is a belief rival clubs are looking at Steele as a potential target, with the Saints perhaps looking to bolster their draft hand this year.

Dogs' potential war chest revealed

The Western Bulldogs could be in line to have extensive salary cap room over the next 18 months given their recent and potentially future player exits.

The departures of Bailey Smith, Jack Macrae and Caleb Daniel have opened up spending for the next couple of off-seasons, while forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan's potential exit could add to that space.

The Bulldogs could be equipped with the needed wiggle room to make a play for Port Adelaide star Zak Butters, who will be eligible for free agency next year, likely under the restricted band.

Suns won't trade Victorian

Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick has denied the chance of the club trading Sam Flanders this off-season.

Flanders is signed with the Suns until the end of 2027, having penned a new deal with the Queensland outfit in 2023.

His place on the outer of Gold Coast's midfield after a stellar campaign last year has piqued the interest of clubs from his home state of Victoria.

Quizzed on Flanders' future, Hardwick was staunch in stating the 23-year-old won't be leaving anytime soon.

West Coast trade targets

Continuing through a list rebuild under first-year coach Andrew McQualter, how do the Eagles utilise the upcoming trade window?

West Coast will be keen to bolster their draft hand where they can, with the potential exit of co-captain Oscar Allen one avenue.

The club should also assess the market of young talent already on an AFL list that could flourish in a role elsewhere.

A former top five pick, a Swans youngster and a fringe Roo are among the names West Coast should be considering in 2025.
