Kevin Sheedy has proposed an incredibly drastic idea for the AFL to expand its reach overseas.

Following the announcement that Port Adelaide will play a match for premiership points in China, Sheedy has suggested that within the next five years every game in Round 1 should be played overseas.

โ€œI firmly believe that a game in China and games overseas are what our game needs,โ€ Sheedy said after he was named the coach of Essendonโ€™s Team of the Country.

โ€œRound 1 should be played overseas in the next five years and then we can come back, have a week off, and move into Round 2 in Australia.

โ€œIf we are able to achieve that, then I think we have done the right thing by the people that wrote the rules over 150 years ago. We canโ€™t just lock our sport up and not share it with the rest of the world.

โ€œI think our game can be popular anywhere in the world. If you think ping pong is a good game, then why not.โ€

The AFL today confirmed that a second team has agreed to play against the Power in China, but the identity of the club is yet to be revealed.

  1. Well most of you are just piss poor at supporting the AFL. You are way to judgemental on K Sheedy who has done more for this game than any of you.
There are many countries now playing our great game. It would be a fantastic idea to promote the game overseas it doesn’t have to be round one. You people are so blinded by hate for this great man that you can’t see the forest for the tree’s. Open your minds to all the possibility’s out there for our great game
