Geelong chief executive Brian Cook has lauded the performance of champion captain Joel Selwood.

Selwood underwent surgery on his hamstring earlier this month after playing through tendonitis throughout the season.

“He played with hamstring tendonitis for a fair bit of last year, particularly the second half," he said on SEN Breakfast.

“He’s an amazing person and an amazing leader, I thought he was our best player in the finals.”

Selwood won't return to full training until January.
Cook said this morning in an interview with 1116 SEN that the club will consider offering the 31-year-old a one-year contract extension at the end of 2021.

“A fit Joel Selwood is pretty handy," he said.

“You would wait to see how he recovers from his latest operation, but you would also see how he goes during the year."
