Geelong had high hopes going into season 2020, hoping to right the wrongs of their 2019 prelim final exit at the hands of the Tigers.

Their elite list meant that they were once again firmly entrenched in the contender column of most people's season predictions, and they lived up to that label as they made their first grand final since 2011.

However, the season was to end in heartbreak as they were once again denied by Richmond as Gary Ablett Jr.'s amazing career ended on a low.

1. BEST WIN

Preliminary Final vs Brisbane: This could have also gone to their Round 12 demolition of the Power, but this win was especially sweet given the circumstances.

The Cats were the underdogs going into the game, with the Lions coming off a weeks break following an emphatic win over the Tigers in week one, and many thought that the second Grand Final spot belonged to Brisbane.

However, the Cats showed up and in a big way, running out 40-point winners as Gary Ablett, Patrick Dangerfield, Mitch Duncan and co. overcame the club's hoodoo to finally reach the Grand Final.
