West Coast veteran Sam Mitchell has rubbished claims he deliberately spat in the direction of Port Adelaide's Sam Gray on Saturday night.

Mitchell came under following the Eagles' last gasp win after video emerged appearing to show the four-time premiership player spit in his opponent's direction.

The incident divided opinion, but Mitchell ensured he was quick to leave no doubt of his opinion on the matter when he fronted the media on Monday afternoon.

"I'm pissed off," Mitchell said in repsonse to claims to purposely spat in Gray's direction.

"There were three people right there who didn't think anything of it.

"I was pretty keen to get the word out there. Nothing happened, nothing at all happened."

Mitchell then grew impatient with the questioning on the incident, asking the reporters present, "can we move on, honestly?"

Mitchell was criticised by former Power player Kane Cornes, who was unimpressed by the incident.

“That’s a pretty ordinary look from Sam Mitchell,” Cornes said on Channel Nine on Sunday.

“I think he would love to have his time again there. Lucky that didn’t hit Robbie Gray on the back of the head.”

West Coast travel to Sydney to face the Giants at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
