Round 2 Team of the Week

Defenders Back Pocket: Tom Stewart (Geelong) Stewart was a huge reason Melbourne’s 72 inside 50s only resulted in six goals, recording 27 disposals, six intercept marks, five tackles and 13 rebound 50s. Full Back: Sam Collins (Gold Coast) Collins was a colossus against his former club, thwarting multiple of their offensive thrusts. Collins recorded 18 disposals at 83% efficiency, eight intercept marks including a huge contested mark in the final minute and seven one percenters. Gold Coast’s defensive unit was able to restrict the Dockers to eight goals after 21 the week before. Back Pocket: Jack Crisp (Collingwood) Crisp took advantage of Collingwood’s ability to hold possession and move forward systematically, recording 32 disposals, 14 marks and three tackles. (Photo by Michael Dodge/Getty Images)[/caption] Half Back: Jarrod Harbrow (Gold Coast) Harbrow was one of Gold Coast’s best against the Dockers after recording 32 disposals at 78% efficiency, as well as nine marks, three rebound 50s and seven inside 50s. Centre Half Back: Jeremy McGovern (West Coast) McGovern was influential against the Giants, recording 18 disposals and 11 marks (10 intercept marks) and was able to effectively stop multiple promising forward forays by the Giants. He mainly matched up on Harry Himmelberg who remained goalless. Half Back: Lachie Whitfield (GWS) After Hutchings was sent to Stephen Coniglio it became clear that Whitfield was going to have a big day. He finished with 33 disposals and 13 marks where his signature run and carry was evident throughout the night. Centre Wing: Chris Mayne (Collingwood) Since moving to a wing Mayne has been able to rejuvenate his career by using his running power to his advantage. He recorded 33 disposals, 11 marks and a goal in the Magpies' win over the Tigers. Centre: Patrick Dangerfield (Geelong) Dangerfield was very influential in the midfield early in the game before moving forward when the game was over. He recorded 37 disposals (24 contested), six marks, four clearances, four tackles and two goals in the Cats' 80-point win over the struggling Demons. (Photo by Quinn Rooney/Getty Images)[/caption] Wing: Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs) Macrae relished the freedom of no tag this week and ran riot recording 36 disposals (27 uncontested), seven marks, three tackles and a crucial goal in the Dogs' come from behind win over the Hawks. Forwards Half Forward: Jade Gresham (St Kilda) Gresham was easily the best player on the ground in the Saints' win over the Bombers, recording 25 disposals, five clearances, marks and inside 50s as well as two goals. Centre Half Forward: Jack Darling (West Coast) Darling was the focal point up forward for the Eagles finishing with four goals and six marks. He provided a strong contest in the forward half with 12 disposals and three tackles. Half Forward: Alex Sexton (Gold Coast) In a low scoring game, Sexton had nine scoring shots and finished with four goals, which was two more than anyone else on the ground. He also had 17 disposals, three marks and four tackles. The Tigers had no clear match up for his athleticism and power, allowing him 15 disposals and six marks. Full Forward: Josh Schache (Western Bulldogs) Schache is beginning to show signs as to why Brisbane drafted at him at pick two in the 2015 draft. He provided a strong target up forward recording 15 disposals, five marks and four goals. Forward Pocket: Charlie Cameron (Brisbane) Cameron started slowly against the Kangaroos but finished with four goals including two in the clutch. He also recorded 11 disposals, five marks and two goal assists. Followers Ruck: Scott Lycett (Port Adelaide) Lycett had career high numbers against the Blues, finishing with 25 disposals (17 contested), five marks, 34 hit outs, 10 clearances and a goal to be the most influential player on the ground in a hard fought win. (Photo by Mark Brake/Getty Images)[/caption] Ruck Rover: Adam Treloar (Collingwood) Treloar ran free on Thursday night and found the ball at will, evidenced by 39 disposals, six marks, four clearances, six inside 50s and a goal. He also had seven tackles, highlighting his ability to provide defensive pressure. Rover: Lachie Neale (Brisbane) Neale had the ball on a string in the win over the Roos finishing with 43 disposals, seven marks, eight clearances and seven tackles. Interchange Luke Shuey (West Coast) The Norm Smith medallist looked a class above on Saturday night, where his speed and class were on full display. He finished with 28 disposals, five clearances and two goals. Clayton Oliver (Melbourne) Oliver recorded a career high 44 disposals (25 contested) in the 80-point drubbing by the Cats. Oliver continued to toil at the coalface all night finishing with 14 clearances and six tackles. (Photo by Quinn Rooney/Getty Images)[/caption] Tim Kelly (Geelong) Harmes had the task of stopping the young star fresh off a best on ground performance in round one but Kelly was unbothered by the tag and finished with 30 disposals (20 contested), 10 clearances, five tackles and a goal. Michael Hurley (Essendon) Hurley tried his best against the Saints in very trying circumstances. Hurley finished with 23 disposals, 14 marks (eight intercepts), nine rebound 50s and six one percenters. If Hurley did not play, the score line would have been much worse.
