Richmond have provided an injury update just a week out from their season opening clash against Carlton, remaining hopeful that Dion Prestia will be right to face selection for Round 1, while there is less optimistic news for Jayden Short.

Prestia strained a pectoral muscle in Richmond's practice match loss to Melbourne over the weekend, with the gun Tiger unable to feature in the second half. Scans confirmed the injury earlier in the week, placing his appearance in the season opener in doubt, but the club is remaining optimistic.

Physical Performance Manager Luke Meehan gave an update to club media, saying that the 30-year-old has pulled up "quite well".

"He's pulled up quite well actually. We're hoping to get him involved in a couple of sessions leading up to next Thursday night. At the moment, things are looking really positive. He has a couple of sessions to get through, but we're hopeful that he's okay," Meehan said.

Short meanwhile, suffered a calf strain during the Saturday afternoon clash, with the Tigers conceding the 27-year-old was "not as likely" to feature in the Thursday night clash.

"(He's) probably not as likely, but again, there's a fair bit of time still to go and a main training session next Tuesday, so he would have to be a part of that. But at this stage, he's maybe unlikely (for Round 1)," Meehan said.

Elsewhere at the Tigers, Tom Lynch pulled up well from his three-quarter practice match effort, on track to feature in Round 1 after a foot injury, while Jack Ross (knee) and Marlion Pickett (adductor) are "probable".

"Unfortunately, Jack hurt himself in the last session before the Melbourne game. Things have improved quite a lot since then and similar to Dion, we're hoping that he'll improve a lot and be able to train (in the main session) next Tuesday and be available, but (he's) probable at this stage," Meehan said.

"Marlion's chipping away at his fitness for next week. At this stage, he's probable for next week, but we'll make more of a call next week when we have our main session."

Richmond's season will get underway on Thursday, March 16 against Carlton at the MCG.
