The AFL has partnered with media goliaths The Walt Disney Company to produce what is set to be the most revealing AFLW documentary since the competition's inception in 2017.

While a litany of filmmakers have previously told the story of the league and its pioneers, Disney's cameras have been provided with an all-access pass into the rooms and lives of four AFLW clubs in Adelaide, Collingwood, GWS, and the Western Bulldogs.

And with this quartet each enjoying differing fortunes across the course of the past summer, the six-part docu-series titled 'Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW' has been constructed by a cast of female storytellers, set to provide footy fans with the most insightful peek into elite-level women's sport.

Though the Magpies, Giants, Bulldogs, and flag-winning Crows will act as the core narrative drivers, the series is also said to have been crafted to chart the rise, prominence, and importance of the AFLW within the ever-growing landscape of women's sport.

Episodes will also seek to reveal the journeys of the players - including their sacrifices and stories - inside a competition that has become renowned for authentically celebrating diversity, and within clubs that often appear more akin to families.

Speaking in the wake of the landmark agreement, the AFL's Executive General Manager of Customer and Commercial, Kylie Rogers, was overjoyed about the unrivalled coverage which will soon be available to fans.

“We are thrilled to be announcing this world-first docu-series which will give fans an unprecedented insight into the behind the scenes of our incredible AFLW athletes," Rogers stated on Tuesday.

Produced in collaboration with Eddie McGuire's JAM TV Australia, the project will involve leading long-form video storyteller Anne-Marie Sparkman, who carved a niche in the early 90s by interviewing superstars such as Tony Lockett and Dermott Brereton, seeking to tell the stories of the person behind the guernsey.

“We are privileged to be the creative team charged with the responsibility of telling the extraordinary story of the AFLW and the stellar women who are creating such important legacies on both sides of the football white line," Sparkman, JAM TV Australia's Executive Producer, said.

"The courage, commitment, and enduring esprit de corps of these athletes will be compelling viewing that will surprise, inspire and capture hearts and imaginations."

While a specific start date for season seven of the soon-to-be 18-team competition is still to be announced, 'Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW' is set to be made available on Disney+ ahead of the opening bounce.
