In a welcome boost for those of a Geelong persuasion, a troubled Tyson Stengle made a successful return to the playing field on Saturday.
The former Tiger and Crow kicked four majors in Geelong's thumping of the Suns in the VFL, in his first match since the Cats lost to Brisbane in last year's AFL Grand Final.
Stengle has dealt with personal troubles, excusing himself from the club and all football activities numerous times in the months since that Grand Final, as he attempts to navigate such challenges.
Rumours persist that he has cut all ties with existing management and Indigenous leaders who have sought to guide the 27-year-old. Saturday's outing presents a major step in the right direction, and one that will no doubt inspire confidence in Chris Scott and his selection committee, that the South Australian may be closer to a return to the top flight than was previously assumed.

Elsewhere, depth acquisition James Worpel was also influential in the drubbing, notching 34 disposals, 11 clearances, seven tackles and two majors of his own.
Sun Jamarra Ugle-Hagan managed one of his side's five goals for the afternoon.
11 goals to one in the second half paints the picture of the Cats' domination in the fixture. Geelong are now three wins clear atop the VFL, albeit, having played one more game than the second-placed Hawks.
