St Kilda have thrown their hat in the ring for out-of-contract Power midfielder Jared Polec with a lucrative offer, according to a report by Nine News Adelaide's Tom Rehn.

“North were the hot favourites and I still think that they’re confident that will happen but St Kilda is now making an 11th hour bid and are making things very very interesting,” Rehn told Nine News Adelaide.

“This is the issue, they’ve made it even bigger, tempting Polec with an offer that we understand to be worth $800,000 dollars a year over five years.

“What that means is even if Port stretch themselves to a fourth year, they’re still $2 million short of what the Saints are offering.”

It would now seem to be a given that Polec is heading to Victoria during October's free agency period.
