Geelong are set to make a play at Western Bulldogs midfielder Luke Dahlhaus, who is yet to commit to the club he won a premiership with in 2016.
Dahlhaus is set to become a free agent at season's end after eight years at Whitten Oval, but should he and the Dogs part ways, the Cats are ready to pounce, according to foxfooty.com.au.
The 25-year-old has a link to Geelong, after training with the club before he was drafted. Dahlhaus is also the second cousin of Cats superstar Patrick Dangerfield.
Dahlhaus also played at the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup, before the Dogs selected him with the 22nd pick in the 2010 rookie draft.
Foxfooty.com.au believe the Dogs still want to keep their premiership midfielder, although they would rather Dahlhaus sign a short-term deal.
A long-term contract offer from a rival club could lure Dahlhaus away from the Dogs, while a substantial offer could also force the Bulldogs into making a call with the playmaker.
Dahlhaus has played all nine games for the Dogs so far this season, averaging 22.8 disposals, 3.7 marks and 4.6 tackles.
The Dogs have players that qualify for free agency this season, with Dahlhaus joining Tom Liberatore and Dale Morris on the unrestricted list, while Mitch Wallis and Jordan Roughead are restricted.
